SGS Minerals Services’ Advanced Mineralogy Network is a comprehensive laboratory network dedicated to providing comprehensive automated High Definition Mineralogy to the global minerals industry and other market sectors that need detailed material, product or residue characterizations. We provide a wide spectrum of services that, at the broadest level, includes
- Mineral and phase determinations
- Particle identification and characterization
- Microchemical analysis
- Digital imaging.
Our key advantages are our broad depth and breadth of expertise with many commodities; a comprehensive suite of state-of-the-art equipment, including QEMSCAN®, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopes (SEM), electronic microprobes; and a wide range of technologies to help you with either a solution or data that is “fit-for-purpose”. Our data provides the base level of objective information that answers many questions or frames many investigations.
While our data supports investigations in many disciplines, we specialize in applications rooted in the exploration and mining industry. We are also closely linked with SGS Geochemistry and Metallurgy facilities across the globe and can work with them to offer you expert services at every stage of your project. High Definition Mineralogy can provide significant input into strategic decisions at the acquisition, exploration, prefeasibility, feasibility and operational levels:
Mineral Exploration and Resource Delineation
Our EXPLOMIN™ products are one way to map the bulk mineralogy and ore textures throughout a deposit and thus assist with property development. Since this data is digital, it can be exported to 3-D imaging software. We can also do automated trace mineral searches to identify precious or rare minerals like gold. As well, we can provide mineralogical, liberation and deportment data in support of geometallurgical programs.
Metallurgical Testing at the Operations and Plant Levels
Our Ore Characterization and Process Mineralogy offerings provide detailed snapshots of the factors that influence grindability and metallurgical recovery. Such data is used to support flowsheet development for grassroot start-ups, metallurgical accounting for on-going operations and benchmark plants during audits and troubleshooting programs.
Sustainable Development Considerations (Environmental Applications, Industrial Hygiene, etc.)
High Definition Mineralogy provides concrete data to support environmental programs (composition of waste rock, tailings and soils), mapping deleterious mineral assemblages (As, Pb, Se), forensic determinations to establish the source of contaminates and industrial hygiene analysis (respirable silica and asbestos determinations).
