RECENT WORK

Copper – Sulphate

  • SX-EW integrated circuit to produce over 200 kg of cathode copper in two campaigns (total continuous operating time over 14 days) from a high copper concentration (12 g/L) feed solution containing iron and chlorides. Both campaigns were operated  as parts of large integrated pilot circuits including unit operations such as flotation, pressure leaching, atmospheric leaching, sulphide precipitation, hydroxide  precipitation and counter-current decantation
  • SX-EW integrated circuit to produce copper cathode from a low grade (< 0.5 g/L) copper solution.
  • SX-EW integrated pilot plants to produce LME grade copper
  • Copper extraction from heap leach liquors

back

Application of Jetcell®

  • Proprietary technology to electrowin copper powder

back

Copper – Cyanide

  • Electrowinning of copper from cyanide solutions produced by ion exchange

back

Nickel – Ammoniacal

  • SX-EW to produce over 30 kg of cathode Ni in a 14 day continuous campaign extracting nickel from an ammoniacal leach liquor, acid stripping to make EW feed and electrowinning in a cell equipped with bagged anodes

SX-Precipitation in a 14-day continuous campaign to produce nickel carbonate from an ammoniacal leach liquor using an ammoniacal SX extraction and stripping system

For both of these projects, SX was integrated with the upstream process, which included multi-stage dissolution of a mixed hydroxide precipitate. Cobalt was recovered as a sulphide precipitate as part of the integrated process.

Batch testing and continuous piloting of SX-EW integrated pilot plants to produce LME grade commercial size nickel cathodes.

back

Nickel – Acid

  • Production of 10 kg of Ni in an integrated Co Ni pilot plant using two consecutive SX circuits followed by Ni EW
  • Development of anode bag system and production of commercial size 7-day Ni cathodes
  • Production of full-size 48-hour Ni starter sheets on Ti and stainless steel blanks
  • Pilot plants campaigns for SX of Ni (and Co) with Ni EW to produce LME grade Ni cathode
  • Ni extraction from industrial plant liquor in column contactor with pH control

back

Cobalt

  • SX recovery of cobalt as a sulphide precipitate from a Co/Ni/Zn feed solution in an integrated Co/Ni circuit
  • SX-EW recovery of Co cathode metal from a Co/Zn/Ni solution using SX to separate Co from Zn
  • Bench and pilot scale studies of SX of Co (and Ni) from acid leach liquors from bench scale evaluation of Co extraction from sulphate solutions, including deep settler testing
  • Pilot plant campaigns for SX of Co and Ni to produce intermediate cobalt product
  • Continuous piloting of Co extraction from ammoniacal sulphate solutions
  • Elevated temperature Co extraction in column contactor with pH control

back

Zinc

  • Bench testing and continuous piloting of SX of zinc from a Co/Zn/Ni solution including application of selective stripping technology
  • SX-EW of Zn from Co/Zn/Ni solution
  • Evaluation of zinc SX in Karr column in both counter and co-current operating modes

back

Silver

  • Application of Jetcell® proprietary technology to silver electrowinning

back

Zirconium

  • SX of zirconium from an acid leach liquor followed by product recovery

back

Manganese

  • Production of over 20 kg of Electrolytic Manganese Dioxide (EMD) from a chloride solution in a high temperature (>95ºC) EW cell in 5 day campaigns over a 2 month period. The work required very tight controls on operating conditions which this was accomplished using the Bailey process control system.
