The experts at SGS have been providing Advanced Mineralogy services for over 50 years and have completed hundreds of projects globally for a wide variety of commodity elements.
Mineralogy Case Studies are available when private or confidential data is generously provided by exploration and mining companies for release to the public. These Case Studies contain important and useful information regarding the use of Mineralogy for particular commodity types, geological models, data applications and more.

Title: Case Study 1E - Mapping a Copper Oxide-Sulphide Transition Zone Using EXPLOMIN™ (PDF 41.8 KB)
Location: Burkina Faso
Samples from two diamond drill holes were analyzed to determine the mineralogical variability of the Gaoua Property owned by Volta Resources. The deposit is located in western Africa in Burkina Faso and has been defined as classic copper-gold porphyry. The purpose of this study was to determine the copper mineral species, delineate the deposit geologically and quantify the resource estimation with respect to copper. This data would ultimately aid with the extraction process. Approximately 250 samples were analyzed at 3 meter intervals within each hole.
The EXPLOMIN™ results along with the Cu geochemical assays were used to define the zones within this copper-gold porphyry system. The EXPLOMIN™ results can also be used for compositing samples for metallurgical beneficiation.
